Seeking actionable solutions, the city of Quito, Ecuador, partnered with Waze for Cities. Our collaboration helped the city achieve its key objectives to:

• Empower drivers to actively contribute to road safety.
• Improve public safety messaging and awareness.
• Share best practices and data with other Ecuadorian cities.

By leveraging the power of community-driven data, the city of Quito has transformed its approach to road safety. They have proactively addressed hazardous conditions, fostered a culture of driver participation, and implemented effective communication strategies, resulting in a significant decrease in traffic accidents.

By collaborating with Waze for Cities, the government of Quito achieved remarkable results across road safety, driver engagement, and data-driven decision-making. To protect their citizens and improve road conditions, the government:

• Utilized Waze data to pinpoint and address the most dangerous sections of the “Avenue of Death,” significantly reducing accidents.
• Implemented targeted safety measures, such as improved signage and warnings for hazardous curves, based on real-time driver reports.
• Engaged over 1,500 drivers to actively report road hazards, creating a powerful community safety network.
• Inspired other major Ecuadorian cities, including Cuenca and Guayaquil, to adopt Waze for Cities, expanding the impact of the program.
